New Stop Signs, a Used Ladder Truck and Holiday Parking: What Haddonfield Commissioners Decided
Three new multiway stops, a $199,000 ladder truck, Mountwell Avenue work and a holiday meter break.
Haddonfield's commissioners took first steps Oct. 26 on three new multiway stop signs and a used fire ladder truck. The final votes and public hearings are set for Monday, Nov. 23, at 7:30 p.m. at Borough Hall. If you drive Elm, Lincoln or Kings Highway, or care how your taxes buy fire equipment, read on.
Three new multiway stops
Ordinance 2026-17 passed first reading with Commissioners Siedell, Troy and Cole voting yes. It adds four way stops at Elm Ave. and Westmont Ave., and at Lincoln Ave. and Chestnut St., plus a three way stop at Lincoln Ave. and Washington Ave.
Mayor Siedell said the spots were picked for traffic, pedestrian activity and how close they sit to schools and rec sites, per The Retrospect.
A used ladder truck, not a new one
Bond Ordinance 2026-18 also passed first reading. It covers $225,000 total, with $213,750 in bonds, for a used ladder truck. The truck is a 2008 Seagrave from Lynbrook, N.Y., authorized for no more than $199,000. That depends on final bond adoption, a good inspection and clear title.
Here is the math that makes it make sense. The current truck dates to 1995 and does not meet current NFPA standards, The Retrospect reported. A retrofit would run about $400,000. New trucks run roughly $1.7 million to $2.2 million.
Mountwell Avenue work
A $625,700 contract went to Asphalt Paving Systems LLC of Hammonton. It covers stormwater work under Mountwell Ave. plus restoration. Underground work may start this winter, with paving when it is warm enough.
A break at the meters for the holidays
Meters on Kings Highway from Grove St. to the PATCO bridge get a holiday moratorium from Friday, Nov. 27, through Sunday, Jan. 3. One catch: meters are still enforced from 7 to 9 a.m. on weekdays. Candlelight Shopping runs Fridays from 6 to 9 p.m., Nov. 27 through Dec. 18, and Small Business Weekend is Nov. 27 to 29.
A thank you, and a handoff
Borough Clerk Deanna Bennett is retiring after 25 years. Commissioners honored her Oct. 26 and named Vanessa Fritz acting borough clerk through Oct. 1, 2027. New Fire Company No. 1 active members are Pierce Atkins, Christopher Gibbon and Joseph Simpson.
Curbside this month
Leaf collection started Monday, Nov. 2, beginning with the Monday trash route, with three rounds this season. Rake leaves onto the parking strip, not the street. The vegetative waste truck has two pickup weeks left in 2026: Nov. 2 and Dec. 7. From January through March 2027 it comes once a month, during the first trash week.
