Haddonfield Restaurant News: Fishtown Seafood Adds Bagels, Little Sister Is Coming, Megu Sushi Has Closed
Free bagels Thursday, a new restaurant in the old bank building, one sushi spot gone, and two openings still waiting. Here's downtown's food news.
Downtown Haddonfield's food scene moved a lot this week. Fishtown Seafood at 114 Kings Highway East started selling bagels and is giving one away free on Thursday, Nov. 5. The owners of Cafe Lift are building a new restaurant called Little Sister in the old bank building, and Megu Sushi has closed. Here's what's confirmed and what isn't.
Fishtown Seafood now does breakfast
Fishtown Seafood added bagels and a bigger prepared food menu, according to South Jersey Food Scene on Nov. 3.
- Free bagel: Thursday, Nov. 5, from 10 a.m., one per customer while supplies last. Kids are off school that day for the NJEA Convention, so plan accordingly.
- The bagels: plain, sesame or everything, plus a Bronx style water bagel. Listed at $3 each, $15 for a half dozen and $27 a dozen.
- The schmears: this is where it gets fun. Brown butter lobster, hot honey lobster, whitefish salad, smoked bluefish, smoked trout, yuzu tuna salad and an egg salad with trout roe, among others. Schmear prices were still being set.
- More lobster: Maine lobster rolls, lobster cheesesteaks and lobster mac and cheese.
- New hours: daily, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
One heads up. Fishtown's own website still showed its older Haddonfield hours when we checked, so if you're going late in the morning, call first at 856-528-7068.
Little Sister is coming to 110 Kings Highway East
Michael and Jeniphur Pasquarello, the Haddonfield couple behind 13th Street Kitchens and Cafe Lift, are bringing Little Sister Restaurant to the former Haddonfield National Bank building at 110 Kings Highway East. South Jersey Food Scene reported on Nov. 1 that a construction permit is posted, interior work looks close to done, and plans call for a parking lot behind the building.
What we don't know: the menu and the opening date. The group once planned a Little Sister in Philadelphia described as Southern Italian with a wood fired grill, but nothing is confirmed for Haddonfield. A spring 2027 opening "seems possible," per the report. We'll treat that as a guess until the owners say otherwise.
Megu Sushi has closed
Megu Sushi at 143 Kings Highway East has closed, South Jersey Food Scene reported on Nov. 2. The chain's remaining South Jersey restaurant is at Tuscany Marketplace, 1990 Marlton Pike East, in Cherry Hill. No new tenant has been announced for the Haddonfield storefront. The same report points sushi fans to Little Tokyo (49 Kings Highway East) and Fuji (116 Kings Highway East).
Still waiting: Penny's Bagels and The Grand Salon
- Penny's Bagels, 212 Kings Highway East: the October target came and went. WhatsOpening says it hasn't seen a report confirming an opening, and no new date is out.
- The Grand Salon by Four Green Cats, 18 Tanner St.: an Oct. 30 grand opening was announced, but as of Nov. 4 WhatsOpening still lists it as "opening unconfirmed."
We won't call either one open until someone confirms it.
