Veterans Day 2026 in Haddonfield: What's Closed, the Veterans Haven 5K and Nearby Ceremonies
Borough Hall closes, the mail stops, and a local 5K raises money for homeless veterans. Here's how to plan the week and how to say thank you.
Veterans Day is Wednesday, Nov. 11. In Haddonfield that means Borough Hall is closed and there's no regular mail, but school is in session. The best local way to mark it comes early: the 12th annual Veterans Haven 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk starts at Christ the King Church on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 9 a.m.
What's closed on Wednesday, Nov. 11
- Borough Hall, 242 Kings Highway East: closed, per the borough calendar and Haddonfield.Today.
- Post offices: closed, and no regular mail delivery. USPS lists Nov. 11 as a 2026 holiday. Regular service picks back up Thursday.
- Schools: the district's middle and high school calendar does not list Nov. 11 as a closing. It's the last day of the first marking period. Our November school calendar has the rest of the month.
If you have business at Borough Hall, get it done Tuesday or wait until Thursday.
Saturday, Nov. 7: the Veterans Haven 5K and 1 Mile Walk
This is the one to put on the calendar.
Haddonfield American Legion Post 38 hosts the race. Proceeds support Veterans Haven South in Winslow, a transitional home for homeless and unemployed veterans. Christ the King says the race has raised more than $140,000 over its first 11 years.
The details, from the race's RunSignup page:
- Where: Christ the King Church, 164 Hopkins Ave. The chip timed course runs through the Camden County parks along the Cooper River.
- When: 9 a.m. start for both the 5K and the 1 mile walk.
- Cost: $45.
- Register by: Thursday, Nov. 5, at noon online.
- Packet pickup: Friday, Nov. 6, 4 to 7 p.m. at Haddonfield Running Co., 121 Kings Highway East, or race morning 8 to 9 a.m. at the church.
- After: basket raffle, refreshments and food at 10 a.m.
Every participant gets a short sleeve shirt. Not a runner? Walk the mile. Not a walker? Go cheer. Christ the King says cheering sections are welcome too.
Ceremonies close to home
Haddonfield's commissioners read a Veterans Day proclamation at their Oct. 26 meeting, The Retrospect reported. We didn't find a Haddonfield ceremony posted for Nov. 11 as of Wednesday morning. These nearby ones are all at 11 a.m. on Veterans Day:
- Haddon Township: Westmont Fire Co. No. 1, 120 Haddon Ave., per the township.
- Cherry Hill: a short service at the flagpole at American Legion Post 372, 1532 Martin Ave. Rain or shine.
- Camden: a free ceremony on the fantail of the Battleship New Jersey, 62 Battleship Place.
If a Haddonfield observance gets posted, we'll add it.
A simple way to say thanks
You don't need an event. Call the veteran in your family. Thank the neighbor who served. And if you can't make the 5K, the race's RunSignup page lists sponsorships starting at $150.
